Line, Orleans Co, VT. Birth date is unknow, but born in VT. The
Septermber 1810 birthdate is from Corys of Americana, but can not be confirmed.
She died on 2 Apr 1887 in KS. She was buried after 2 Apr 1887 in
Leanna Cenmetery, Chanute, Neosho Co, KS. Eunice Cory, named a daughter
for her mother, Mary Bailey. In Corys of America, Al Bertus Cory got the Patterson
surname correct, but his informant got the other name mixed up with Mary Bailey
Patterson's husband, A.W. Reed.
Mary Lou Veal, found a picture of Dwight Cory on line. He is the son of Orin
Cory, brother of Eunice. Her nephew, Dwight, looks enough like her to be her
son.
After Ansel's death, Eunice married for a second time to John Johnson. They
are listed on the 1850 census in Vinton Co, OH (her name is given as "Unis"
and age was 38). Eunice was living in York Twp, Van Wert Co, OH with Catherine
Knapp in 1880 and Catherine's two children, Wallace and Josephine (1880 census).
Eventually she moved to Leanna, Kansas and lived with Aaron Reed and Mary Bailey
Patterson (her daughter).
Eunice Cory and Ansel Patterson Jr. were married on 5 Feb 1828 in VT.
Ansel Patterson Jr.88,143,144 (son of Ansel Patterson and Lucina Colton) was born
about 1800 in VT. He died after 25 Jun 1841 in Gallia (now Vinton)
Co, OH.
It is not known when Ansel and Eunice moved to Ohio, but they may have lived
in Richland Township, Vinton Co, which was formed in 1850 from 5 other counties.
The county seat is McAuthur.
Ansel Patterson is found in a listing of "Entrymen on Lands" in Jackson
Co, OH. Sale date was 22 April 1839 in Gallia County for 40.45 acres. Another
40 acres of land was purchased by Ansel on 25 June 1841 and recorded at the Land
Office in Chillicothe (source: Certificate #11149 from the General Land Office).
The legal land description showed it was part of the Ohio River Survey (Act
of 24 April 1820), 6N Township, 18W Range, Section #1. On this land record,
he is listed as "of Gallia County, Ohio."

about 1831. Harlan is not listed as living with his mother and step-father
in 1850, so it is assumed he left home before age 20.
Family legend is that Harlan went to Texas and helped survey the state. At some
point, he was starting a cattle drive to Chicago and is said to have drowned

1862. They were married on 11 Nov 1841 in Jackson Co, OH.
John Johnson145
was born on 16 Jan 1779 in PA. He held a Land Patent for almost 81
acres on 1 Jul 1831 in Jackson Co, OH.146
He died on 24 Sep 1862 in McArthur, Vinton Co, PA. He was buried
on 26 Sep 1862 in Tarr Cemetery, Clinton Twp, Vinton Co, OH. He served
in the military during the war of 1812.
After John Johnson's death, his personal property was appraised by Stephen Salts,
O.P Guerning, and James Crow on 11 Oct 1862. Administrator of his estate was
his son, Henry Johnson. When inventory was taken, there was $213.90 cash on
hand.
"We the undersigned appraisers appointed by the Probate Court of Vinton
County to appraise the personal property belonging to the Estate of John Johnson,
late of said County Deceased being first duly sworn according to law to set off
to Eunice Johnson widow of the said John Johnson dec. the following property
without appraisement in Accordance with the Statute in such case made and provided
to wit.
Two Beds, Bedd Steds & Bedding
One Table, 6 chairs
6 plates, 6 tea cups & saucers
6 knives & forks
Six Table Spoons, 6 Tea Spoons
1 sugar dish, One Cream Cup, One Tea Pot
All the cooking utensils in the possession of said Widow there being no more
than what is necessary for her use
One spinning wheel
One Family Bible
The wearing apparrell of the deceased
The Bed Steads & Bedding & wheel ___ are claimed by said widow to be
her separate property & to have been brought with her at the time of her
marriage.
Also the Table
We also set off to the said widow the following property selected by her and
valued by us as follows to wit

One Cupboard 8.00

We the undersigned appraisers do also set off to said Widow the following property
for her support one year. To wit
The One third part of about 4 acres of Corn
One Acre of ___ and fodder
The Hay in the Mow & One half ___ in the orchard
Two Hogs Small ___
A small lot of food being all on hand
And the above leaving in our opinion is suficient for her support one year &
then seeing no other property of a ___ ___ to set off we do allow her the sum
of Fifty Dollars. To be paid to her by the Administrator out of the proceeds
of the Estate.
