Francis, the old soldier. That was his life and his proudest moments.
The old Sergeant always considered himself "just an enlisted man at
heart. He served in the Indian Wars, Spanish American War and was
offered a lieutenancy in the Philippine Scouts, while serving in the
Philippines during the insurrection. But he turned it down to remain a
non-commission soldier with his men. He moved to Bellingham Washington
in 1903. In 1904 entered the postal service and retired in 1932.
Francis was awarded a plaque for 50 years of continuous service in the
volunteer Army and National Guard. Francis was killed in an automobile
accident while returning to Bellingham from visiting his brother
Victor in Olympia, Washington. He was 82 years old.

and well known in the city. My Uncle Frank was also visiting at this
same time. I ask him one day what he called those leather things he
wore on his legs. He replied, boot leggings. I told every one in town
who would listen that my Uncle Frank was a bootlegger. (in 1929 and in
that locale, he could of been) But as a fine and upstanding citizen I
doubt it. Francis McGuire Cory and Iva Shaw were married on 23 Jun 1907.
