245. Aaron Cory¹ was born on 29 Mar 1772 in Rahway, Umion Co, NJ. He died on 16 Jun 1834 in New Washington, Crawford Co, OH. BIOGRAPHY
Aaron, son of Abner, was born on the farm near Rahway, NJ in 1772. At the age of 21, with some twenty-five others who lived in Essex and Morris Counties, New Jersey crossed over the Alleghenies and for a while halted in Virginia (now Brook and Hancock Counties, WV.) Others stopped in Washington and adjoining counties in PA., among them being the Days, Axtells, Conklins, and Tuthills. On their migration they were subject to continual annoyance from the Indians, at one time having to run for their lives to a rude fort at Wheeling, VA. Aaron met and married Elizabeth McGuire daughter of Thomas and Mary (Carr) McGuire while they were in Washington Co, PA. Early in 1802 a small colony (Aaron his wife and son John) among the number left PA and settled in what is now known as the Salem Tract in Tuscarawas, Co, OH. On 8 July 1814 Aaron purchased 160 acres in Tuscarawas Co for $2.00 per acre. In 1817 Aaron and family moved to Ashland Co, OH and in 1826 move to Crawford Co, Ohio. They bought a farm from George Bergin, two miles east of New Washington, Ohio. There was some land that was cleared and a log cabin had been erected by George in 1821. George was the first settler in Cranberry Township. The farm to this day is known as the CORY farm. Aaron was a justice of the peace in 1832, was ordained minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church, was a soldier in the war of 1812. He died on his farm in 1834.

Aaron Cory and Elizabeth McGuire were married on 22 Apr 1799 in Independence, Washington Co, PA. Elizabeth McGuire¹ (daughter of Thomas McGuire and Elizabeth Parker) was born on 2 Jan 1782 in Washington Co, PA. She died on 12 Apr 1850 in New Washington, Crawford Co, OH. Aaron Cory and Elizabeth McGuire had the following children:
