44. John Cory IV1 was born about 1704 in Elizabethtown, Essex Co, NJ. He died on 8 Aug 1768 in Westfield, Union Co, NJ. BIOGRAPHY
John was born on the farm near Westfield in Elizabethtown, NJ in 1703. At the death of his father he became the owner of the CORY farm that his father had gave him in his will made 1720 and proved in 1723. John and Martha lived on the farm where all the children were born. John was for many years an Elder in the 1st Presbyterian Church at Westfield. The following was taken from their tombstones in the cemetery at Westfield. "Here lieth the body of Mr. John Cory who departed Aug ye 8th 1768 in the 65th yr of his life" and beside him "here lieth the body of Martha, wife of Mr. John Cory who departed this life Sept ye 24, 1777 in the 71st year of her life" The Will of John Cory shows the date of Oct 29, 1765 proved Aug 26 1768. He willed the 63 acre home farm to son David, mentions wife Martha, sons, John (eldest) Jacob, Abner, David, brother Elnathan, Father John Cory (deceased), daughters Hannah, Phoebe, Sarah, and Rachel. Executors sons Jacob and Abner.

John Cory IV and Martha Parkhurst were married about 1728 in Westfield, Union Co, NJ. Martha Parkhurst1 (daughter of Benjamin Parkhurst and unknown) was born about 1707. She died on 24 Sep 1777 in Westfield, Union Co, NJ. BIOGRAPHY
In Benjamin Scudder's diary, page 38 (Proceedings, NJ Historical Society) written 1776: States that Benjamin Scudders wife was the daughter of John Cory of Westfield Essex Co NJ and that her mother was Martha Parkhurst born in Newark NJ. Martha's will was proved 5 March 1778 Liber, 18, page 681. Executor: Son Abner Cory and son in law Benjamin Scudder. John Cory IV and Martha Parkhurst had the following children:

Isaac Cory1 was born in Sep 1738 in Westfield, Union Co, NJ. He died. BIOGRAPHY
"New Jersey Colonial News Paper Extracts:" Elizabethtown, Dated Feb 22, 1754 "Twenty Pieces of Eight Reward": Whereas Isaac Cory, son of John Cory, of Elizabethtown went away from his parents that very cold Tuesday, the 22d of January last, supposed to be something disordered in his mind, which caused diligent search to be made , for fear he was frozen to death; he was 16 years of age, of middle size, had dark eyes and light hair; Had on two dark grey jackets, with pewter buttons, the upper one with slash sleeves, old wool hat, leather breeches with brass buttons, old shoes, grey stockings, and a course shirt. If he be living, any person that will bring him home shall have Twenty Pieces of Eight reward and reasonable charges, paid by John Cory. (as far as I can find out he was never heard from again).
